AFAIK - As far As I Know

You can use far in expressions like 'as far as I know' and 'so far as I remember' to indicate that you are not absolutely sure of the statement you are about to make or have just made, and you may be wrong.


Examples:

  • As far as I know, he won't come to the party. (Até onde eu sei, ele não virá para a festa.)

  • You can't do that, as far as I know. (Você não pode fazer isso, pelo que eu sei.)

  • As far as I know, no one has complained. (Pelo que me consta, ninguém reclamou.)

To be in a good mood / To be in a bad mood

Good/bad humor

  • At least I'll be in a good/bad mood when he arrives. (Pelo menos vou estar de bom humor quando ele chegar.)

  • Lucky for you, she seems to be in a good/bad mood. (Felizmente para si, ela parece estar de bom humor).

  • Why should I be in a good/bad mood? (Por que haveria de estar bem-disposto?).

Never heard of

  • I had never heard my song on the radio. (Eu nunca tinha ouvido a minha canção na rádio.)

  • I never heard the soccer ball story before. (Nunca ouvi a estória das bolas de futebol.)

It’s not your business

  • Thank you, but it's not your business. (Obrigada, mas não é da tua conta.)

  • Scram, it's not your business. (Desapareça, não é da sua conta.)

  • Let me tell you, it's not your business who I bring in here. (Olhe, não é da sua conta quem trago aqui.)

Hold you horses

  • Hold your horses, Mom! You should think about it in order not to regret. (Vai com calma, mãe! Acho que você deveria pensar sobre isso pra não se arrepender)

  • She told me to hold my horse when he arrives. (Ela disse para eu me controlar quando ele chegar)

  • They had to hold their horses when they heard that about their parents. (Eles tiveram que manter a calma quando ouviram aquilo sobre os pais dele)

 

Piece of cake

  • That test was a piece of cake! (A prova foi moleza!)

  • Of course I can play this song − it's a piece of cake! (Claro que consigo tocar essa música − é bico!)

  • I've been training so much that I can only expect the race will be a piece of cake. (Tenho treinado tanto que só posso esperar que a corrida seja superfácil.)

Hang in there

  • Sometimes you just have to hang in there and wait. (Às vezes, temos de aguentar e esperar.)

  • We had to hang in there and be tough. (Tínhamos que esperar e ser duros.)
